Meet Our Team

Ok here is my story in a nutshell:

I started as a veterinary technician in 1999 and studied animal science at Cedar Valley College through the American Animal Hospital Association.  I spent 3 years as an animal control officer with Iredell County before starting my career here with Veterinary Specialties at the Lake. My favorite part of veterinary medicine beside the pets and their people is veterinary dentistry. I have my certifications in livestock recovery and rabies vaccinations. I share my home with my husband and daughter. Also, on our farm we have 4 mules, 5 coonhounds, a brood of chickens, and plethora of barn cats. 

Star has been an employee of the world of veterinary services for more than 20 years. She first met Dr Barber in 2001.

She was in a quandary, when her breeding bitch Dragon, a Golden Retriever, couldn’t be shipped to the stud dog in NY. A friend told her about Dr Barber, a Reproductive Specialist who was new to the area. “Why ship your bitch when the stud dog can ship the semen to her and do an artificial insemination she said.”

After contacting Dr Barber, progesterone testing, two AI’s from two semen shipments, a beautiful litter of 8 was born!

In 2006 Star began working for Dr Barber as her veterinary assistant in reproduction. Not only can she draw blood but she can draw graphics. She designed the current logo that is used at Veterinary Specialities at the Lake.

I've been a technician for one year but my love and care for animals has been lifelong. I’ve had dogs, goats, horses, pigs, snakes, Guinea pigs, rabbits, fish and more. I currently am mom to two Shar Peis and a senior rescue Shar Pei mix. My life includes caring for your pet and mine. I love the outdoors and camping with my fiancé and our three pups.
